I'm loving the process of painting materials and then sewing on paper and materials. Here are a couple of pieces I have been working on. More detail can be seen on my flickr account.
Sometimes I need to reflect on the good things in life. I should do it more often. My mum is staying with us for a few days. She is taking Master A to his first ever movie. Miss M is going to the gallery and museum with dadda. And me? Not sure, I'm just going to take it easy I think. Or should I go with one of them?
Because watching TV by a fire, in a boat whilst wearing a cap is fun.
Because putting on as many undies and hats with slippers is just what you do when you are 4.
Because little feet can fit into rubber gloves and make you quack like a duck.
Because waking up too early and all grumpy means watching early morning TV with someone you love.
And the winner is Brooke from Three Pink Trees. Congratulations. Here is a sneak peak at what you will be getting. Of course I'm still keeping some of it a secret. You'll have to wait for the mail to arrive Brooke to see more.
Yep. I've started something new. Nope, I haven't finished much this month. You see I saw this from the Purl Bee and became inspired...again!
Thought I would share a sneak peak of some housy things in my life. This weekend is about moving and sorting. I have a desk back in my studio now. Albeit no power outlets behind it so my computer is still in the lounge. I'm slowly moving back in and it is now time to go through years worth of files, boxes and items. I'm going to try and be brave and cull as much as I can.
I'm also helping my friend Bernadette move house this morning. She is about to undergo her first radiation treatment this week, so I think moving house with two small kids might be a tad stressful for her.
My car looks like a mini cyclone has been through it. I am so sick of the mess. Every time I go somewhere I look at the floors and the seats and there is always something on them. Thank goodness I don't take friends in my car very often. I tell myself each trip that I will clean it up. But when I come home all I want to do is get the kids inside and my arms are usually full anyway. Even if I did clean it up, keeping it clean is my problem. So like any 21st century mother I create/buy something to store the mess in...hence the car bag for the back of the front seats.
My kids love Beetle cars. Every time we see one on the road we yell out 'Spotto'. Did anyone else play that game as child? Items that will hopefully live in it are, hats, suncream, pencils, drawing pads, sunglasses, drink bottles, snacks and books. I'm not sure about the books however. I think I might have to redesign the next one because the pockets aren't big enough for the weight of the books. Regardless of the design, I'm sure I'll find the odd sock, teddy, leaf, sand, shell, plastic packaging, orange peel, apple core...........
Hubby has swapped cars with me, so I'll have to wait to test it out tomorrow.
i am always amazed at how much inspiration there is out there I can view within an instant on my screen in the comfort of my home. This is one of the reasons I blog; to be inspired and to hopefully inspire.
Recently I emailed this photo to Monica because she seemed to be in need of a little suhshine in her English winter life. I didn't realise it at the time, but I helped inspire her to make the most beautiful quilt.
Check it out it is gorgeous. Infact I loved it so much she in turn has inspired me. Even thrown me off my blue track for a few days. So this is what I am making right now. I guess I am yearning for a little autumn.
Do you often feel that at the end of a season you start to jump ahead to the next one hoping it will come sooner?
Thanks for your well wishes regards my eye everyone. It really is getting better, a little itchy still but I am back to being able to work on something for more than 5 minutes at a time. I've been working on personal and 'real' work these last few days. Real work meaning I get paid for it so I can fund my personal work.
My favourite media I love working with right now are fabric, paper and ink. I enjoy working with each of these separately but I am having fun combining all 3.
Here is the paper illustration I am contributing to the paper quilt project. The theme for January is/was 'A day in my life". I was going to illustrate the mess on my desk, the mess in the kitchen, the mess on the couch that is a so called 'cubby house', the mess in my car and the piles of linen stacked high on our bedroom floor awaiting for the new cupboard to be installed. But the format was too small, not enough paper to illustrate all of this usual mayhem. So I decided to illustrate my very dry garden. Water restrictions here mean we can only use buckets to water and only during certain hours on certain days, It is a very arduous chore.
I also made this. A friend of mine came for a visit and she popped an idea into my head. The 2 on the left are illustrations and the illustration on the right is made with fabrics and stretched onto a canvas frame.
my eye is on the mend. I took myself to the optometrist and I have nothing of any major worry. This in itself is frustrating because I am obviously having an ongoing problem, I would at least like it to be called something or at least know why it is happening! So a few days of constant eye drops, and back to see the eye doctor on Monday. Maybe it was all that red that did it to me from last month.
Meanwhile I spent my day scrubbing a bathroom...always fun..., swimming with the kids, and eating mango ice cream. I made this bracelet other day. I'm not one who usually makes jewellery or works with beads, but I love buying them, holding them and colour grading them. Then they just sit there for me to look at. I could spend hours in bead shops trying to decide which ones I like.
Anyway back to the bracelet.
It is made with the most gorgeous felt shapes, resin and weaved paper beads (I'm sure they have a proper name). But it just isn't me. I've put it on a few times, but I don't think I will wear it. So....would you? Infact to get me into the blue swing of things, I'm going to make a little pack up of all things blue just for one of you. If you would like to be in the draw, comment or email me your favourite blue colour or thing and I will put your name into a hat. I won't show anything else in the pack. I want to keep it a surprise and also I haven't found/made anything else that is blue just yet. I'll start acting like a bower bird and get to it. I'll announce the winner on the 23rd of Feb..or as close to as possible.
Inspired by my time at the beach and driving through the bush. A better image can be seen over at my flickr account. I'll have 3 of these available in my etsy shop too.
I have a reoccurring eye problems at the moment, so trying to minimise my computer time to work related projects. I'll be quiet in blog land for awhile.
