change is as good as a holiday
this time last year we were running away to Hayman Island for a child free holiday. No plans as yet for this year. I'm even having to twist Mr N's arm to book in a January holiday for next year. What is it with some men and not knowing how to slow down and take a break from work! So I'm venting all my no holiday frustration into decorating. And I have shocked myself into what I am about to do!
You see I'm not an overly girly girl. I like simple lines, muted colours, I don't wear much makeup, and I might slip on a pair of high heals once a year. When Miss M was born I vowed and declared that she would never wear pink. This lasted for quite sometime, and fortunately she doesn't look good in pastels and pinks anyway.
This also meant no pink in her room! I decided to keep it a little soft, by incorporating lavender and sage decor. (you remember the quilt saga right?) But I'm over that. Now I want red in her room. Except we just painted one of her walls a pale sage green. And then I saw this wonderful linen embroidered cushion on the net from Room Seven.... If fell in love.
How can I combine red and green in her room without it looking like a Christmas table setting? Well maybe, I could soften the red and make it a little pink! WHAT!!!! PINK! Well, actually I'm calling it raspberry red, that sits with me better. And adding a touch of black makes it not so girly. Right? So now I am stitching and sewing away with any spare minute of the night and day to make it all happen.....and of course to get it finished before I change my mind AGAIN!

...depends on the green you add: some grey-green or sea-green will do. I thought about what would it make looking girly: it's the design, not the colour!! A clear simple design is not girly!
I like your cushion very much!

What a gorgeous colour palette! Going from the peek a the quilt - that one is going to look amazing. And I adore the cushion too! I wasn't keen on having my first daughter wear pink but it was inevitable due to all the pink gifts she was receiving from family :-) Although, the funny thing is that despite all the pink in her life, her favourite colour is blue!

Raspberry has a way of making everything look more scrumptious, more exciting...it's a great accent color, isn't it?! I'm loving everything in the photos!

Funny how that happens. I felt the same way with my girl, now I have to eat my words, her room is so pink, too pink and it is all my doing.

Reds and greens are compliments and are so great together. Adding pink and white soften it. I don't even think of Christmas as much as strawberries. I think you'll have lots of fun with those colors. Please share photos as you work through it all.

I didn't see pink and cute in the beginnings, too but now I think it's just natural to let pink in, as well as all other colours, like yellow which I didn't favour for so long... certain colours are for certain times. Let pink come and go and if the end of pink comes just when you are finishing that beautiful quilt... I will take it! Raspberry red, one of my favourites!

I'm in love too! Gorgeous!

Raspberry red is soooo not pink! Love the way her quilt is looking.

OH yes, there isn't a chance I would pay that much for Miss M's linen...given her 'lets draw with pen on anything in my room' moments!

Don’t we all have those periods we love some special colours? It depends on the mood I’m in which colours I like. I think it the quilt etc. look wonderful Tiel! Aren’t you glad you can make it yourself, I was stunned by the prices of the Room Seven products!! (They look gorgeous though!)

I went through the whole lavender and sage nursery stage, but my daughter is a little more determind to have pink, so I combined it with a leafy green and aquamarine. that's what our relationship is all about at the moment - compromise!! can't wait to see the finished change though - my own bedroom is green and raspberry red.
