plastic pony party
I'm not really back yet from my blogging break. I'm still catching up on real life in so many ways. But I couldn't let this event skip by without a mention. Miss M turned four this week and we had a lovely day celebrating with her.
Last year she loved mermaids, and this year she loves ponies..you know those awful, plastic colourful cartoon ponies that make me want to be sick every time I see them on TV! How am I going to survive the Barbie years??
I cursed and complained as I made a cake for her. She really wanted a pony cake, but I would rather have chopped my hands off than attempt anything of the sort. I hate baking cakes!!! My mum who has been staying with us made the actual cake, and the night before the party, I worked up the stamina to decorate it as a rainbow. Note the extra ponies on the board.....that is as far as I could go! I think the expression on her face told me that it was a success, even if she only ate the icing and sugar from the top.
Happy birthday missy moo.
And thank you mum for all your help. Look at these lovely party bags she made.

Happy birthday miss M!
Look at miss M's face! She looks so amazed with the cake. Glad you did not need to make a pony shaped cake...
I wonder what my son is going to ask me for his birthday.

Happy Birthday to your girl!! and wow at the party bags... I have always meant to do this, but always run out of time. It's a great idea, and lovely that they get something more than the usual munch it and chuck it away stuff.

What a sweet missy at 4! Happy Birthday to her! I recently got Anita Kaushal's absolutely gorgeous book "The Family at Home" which I do believe you would also enjoy (if you don't have it...) and she's included a couple of amazing "my little pony" photos in her section about children's taste and their attraction to all things tacky.... The photos are so good, that I think my little ponies are heading for vintage kitschy collectible status in 20 years! Just like those weird Telletubies - prized collectibles in 2040...perhaps...

P.S. Sorry I never replied to your note, but I'm all for some kind of a swap with you down the road - I have to start making some stuff though !!!

Oh my dear, be thankful she hasn't noticed Bratz Dolls. I feel like those about like you do the ponies. I hate how they look and refuse to buy them. My granddaughter is now 8 years old and still into ponies of any kind. Her Little Tykes ride ponies and her barbies have a pony and she gets to ride a real pony every year on the 4th of July. I don't know what we'll do when she gets too big for those pony rides. I think she'll have a lifelong love of horses and it all started with the my little ponies.
Miss M is sooo cute and yes I think the cake was a big hit. Thanks for sharing her with us.

We found the Only Heart dolls as a substitute for Barbies. Their clothes are much cuter and they are more flexible. And, they don't look like they belong on the Playboy ranch! Here's some info:

Happy Birthday Miss M! You are sweet to indulge the Pony whim. At least she won't be able to yell "And you NEVER bought me a pink Pony" when she's 14 and hormonal!! How fast they grow.

Happy (belated) birthday Miss M! Plastic ponies, yep they are favourite toys here as well!

Missy Moo. I love it. I'm 34 and my Dad still calls me that. She looks delighted by the cake. Honestly, rejoice in their ponies and mermaids and even the Barbies. Those magical years are gone all too quickly.

Snap! We also had a 4 year old pony party last week. My daughter's friends had turns riding on a pony from the local stables in the park and I managed to avoid the plastic ones by buying some pony shaped candles to stick on the cake! The grand finale was our giant pony shaped helium balloon flying off into the sky as another child let it free from the party table....

It sure looks like its a success. Two Taureans in the family, what's that like?

Hmm... the world doesn't change much! My 21 year old was crazy for the ponies when she was four. I swore that purple ponies would not darken my door, but a friend gave her one for her birthday (after coaching from said daughter). The look on her face was triumphant and I got over it. Fortunately she got over ponies too. We do have lots of barbies (I think they multiply too!), but NO bratz! (It really is all about the 'spin')At about 9 she saw Star Wars and became hooked on that, so lego became the coveted toy at our house (thank goodness!). At least with lego it can be something other than what it comes as. It also comes in pink and purple girly versions which I have resorted to when trying to distract a daughter from the bratz phenomenon and even my 7 year old son enjoys the girly lego. Enjoy the ponies and have a great week!

Happy birthday to the little girl. Not so little anymore I suppose...
Ponies eh?
ha ha.
I thank God for Lego. And boys.

Looks great! I love the rainbow cake.

Nice cake decorating! I've sworn there are certain toys not coming in this house - I wonder how long I'll hold out.

I'm impressed with how you got around the pony thing - the cake looks great! Love those sugar sprinkles. I know what you mean about the Barbie years. I swore a Barbie would never enter our house, but, alas 4.5 years later and there's about 4 of them in her toy box (they have multiplied like rabbits). I felt dirty for a while, but, hey, at least they're not Bratz dolls, right?
Happy birthday Miss M!

Just tell yourself that the ponies are hip, VINYL toys... makes them sound cooler when they're vinyl instead of plastic!
They even sell 'blanks' of them:

You need to get one and paint it yourself... feel the love!
It's all in how you spin it ;)
