rolling out the dolls

It's been far too long since I have made some matryoshka softie dolls.
 I have been sewing away and lots of little soft doll bodies are popping up all over my house.

Except I have lost all of my labels that I sew into the sides of them. Completely gone. I have been turning my house upside down for months looking for them with no luck. Instead I have found so many unfinished projects that are still haunting me. So I think I will have to buy some new ones. Except I don't remember where I bought them from. That email/receipt was on my old computer and I didn't transfer the details. So if there are any recommendations of where I can go to buy some new printed, small fabric labels that would be super. Some of these dolls are for sale and some have already sold.

Spider man just doesn't do it for me!

My son has been asking me for far too long to draw him some dolls for boys.
He told me he likes my 'baboooshkas' but they are too girly.
Right now he loves anything that is robotic or has a superhero element about it. Thankfully he isn't into anything too commercial. So I am avoiding major crap movie brands to a degree. He loves to make super hero bracelets, belts and guns, planes and capes all out of paper, al-foil and string. Star Wars is my limit for now....and only because I have a little thing for Ewan Macgregor and the character Han Solo.
Spider man just doesn't do it for me!

So I drew these 3 robots today. I haven't printed them yet. Thinking of maybe putting them on canvas and some new cards down the track.

But I couldn't come up with any cool names. Mr A and Miss M helped me today. Below are the words from my two little critters.

Top Left:
Meet Archie the Fasty. He likes to play shooting games and is very fast on his roller feet. He has electric stuff come out of his ears that make him blast off into space when he is happy.
He likes listening to Dan Zanes.

Top Right:
Meet Tracky Bot.
He needs to be filled with lemondade to work. His sepcial powers are that his eyes can burn holes into walls just in case he needs to get away fast.
He is a great dancer and loves listening to Amy Winehouse's REHAB!

Bottom:
Meet Stumpy.
He likes to fix broken things around the house and esp the kitchen. He loves eating sausages sprinkled with nails. He has a radio and CD player built into his stomach and he loves listening to The Rolling Stones.

I've been sewing some new paper shoes. Here are 2 in my shop.

colours of the moment

lately I am drawn to these colours and I'm surprised to see that pinkish tones are appealing to me.
But I like the idea of adding them with mustards, chartreuse tones, greys and blues.
So I am back onto my cactus series today, and hopefully for the rest of this week.

the bedside table

What's on your bedside table? Does it say much about the person you are?
Monica got me onto this....thought I would reveal a little about me.

selvedge mags...old ones are just as good as the new ones.

catcher in the rye....have no idea why I am reading it.To be honest I don't really remember finishing the first time. Perhaps there was a good reason for that.

rescue remedies....I swear by the stuff. It stops my head spinning with ideas when I can't sleep and puts me into a truly deep sleep without any side effects. I don't usually take the spray and the pastilles together....but just in case! It is also safe for kids. Except it has no effect at all on Miss M who is like the energizer bunny.

jewellery... I can't sleep with any jewellery at all, including my wedding and engagement rings.

moisturiser... i try to be good at night.

Like Monica, I have always taken a drink of water to bed with me. Mr N prefers cordial, so I will occasionally get that. We hide the coridal from our kids! Aren't we stingy?

hair bands and clips...if they aren't mine they are Miss M's

iphone...my alarm clock to get me out of bed.

Nesting Bird

I stumbled across this beautiful, newish gift and homewares store the other day called
Nesting Bird Interiors.
Nestled away on the second level in the heart of Woolloongabba's (Brisbane) Logan Road shops. It is hard to miss or not see the stairs that are at the back of another shop below. But it is well worth the climb. Anyway after chatting to the owner about my work, I came in and showed her some of my work.
She loved it and as of today you can buy some of my stuff here.

So if you are in Brisbane and looking for a one off shop that sells lovely unique products for both children and adults, swing by and have a look. There are a few little shops in the area well worth looking at and a great cafe next door.

Sunday

today we ate lunch at my sister's house.

Rack of lamb.
Beetroot salad.
Roast vegetables.
Peach, olive, fetta and tomato salad.
Easy Sunday living.

No we didn't drink any of that grog. But I always notice the objects in her house that are easily accessible and on display. (read we don't have children so we can have the good stuff left out)
Of course this makes me always on the ball by saying, "be careful with that, don't touch......."

Mr A fell asleep on the way home and woke up a couple of hours later announcing "it's good to sleep the day away sometimes" First week of school has exhausted him.

summer

about this time every year I get a little sick and tired of the constant heat and humidity of summer. Others might be feeling the same way about the freezing, dark days of winter depending on where you live.

Albeit, just north of me there are massive floods and cyclones and just south there are scorching, record breaking heat waves.
So really we are fine.

It is just another summer.

Finishing the week early with an icy cold drink, a swim in the pool with dad, and an easy summer meal of fresh fig, apple and barbecued pork salad eaten outdoors with the moon above in the clear blue skies.

Okay, summer is good....but I can't wait for the cool relief of autumn.

ps we don't eat the apple whole in our salad. I slice it at the very last minute!
