It seems in this house our kids have discovered Halloween. My generation never celebrated Halloween as the Northern Hemisphere does. Infact it was't an event at all! But I'd say that tonight just about every neighbourhood across Australia there will be little dressed up terrors knocking on doors tonight. M calls it 'trigger treeding" She has no idea what it is all about. I think she will just be happy with green hairspray in her hair.
I was too lazy to buy a pumpkin to carve. the local ones are too hard and the imported ones too expensive. (You can see I'm really getting into the spirit of things). Pardon the pun.
So I carved a rockmelon instead. Not sure how our Jack O Lantern or as it is called by M as Jacoranda, is going to light up, but I don't think they will mind. Perhaps I should have filled it with red jelly instead.
In the meantime, I'm all ready for tomorrow. My little helpers this morning were great at packing some of the greeting cards, while I snapped some shots of work I'll be taking.
Went to the Finders Keepers today and it was really great. So happy to see lots of like minded people there. Glad Brisbane is really starting to support these events.
Best go green paint to be sprayed!!!

love the rockmelon tiel - mine wanted to carve a watermelon but i thought no, too messy. And i don't really want to encourage the whole halloween thing - but you make rockmelon carving look supremely cool!

Love the cantalope. I think the orange flesh looks great.

Tiel, that is THE best carved rockmelon I have EVER seen...Ok, It's the only carved rockmelon I have ever seen. The arty part of me says use your wood carving tool and carve just the outside of those rock hard pumpkins in patterns (like the thais carve their fruit and pumpkins). No need to hollow out- stick a candle on top. Maybe even try roasting it in the oven later with the skin on....
After 5 years here in the states we have come to LOVE Halloween. But this year we have swine flu so we have to stay in and make our own fun..plan is to stay in and MAKE a movie since we have all the costumes ready ...may as well try to do something fun.

I'm so of your generation, babe! When did this Halloween thing happen??? My youngest is so cheesed off with me at the moment because I wouldn't let her go Trick or Treating... let's just say we don't live in a gated community like all those ones you see on the American movies! So, we watched Matrix instead - that's scary enough, isn't it?
Kx
p.s. Still hoping to see you at the markets, but if I don't make it good luck for a great day :)
