I've finally decided how to manage my art.

I've decided to have two Etsy shops...yes I'm sticking with Etsy even though I can't sell in AUD!!

So I'll have 3 main shops now.

1. BIG CARTEL...mostly for larger original works and prints.

2. TSK TSK ETSY... original art, prints for big people...mostly smaller format.

3. TSK TSK p e t i t e.....original art for small people and those small at heart.

 

I've started uploading some new collages I made over summer. Inspired by this site and of course summer.

These bathing beauties are made from a variety of papers, including old recipe books.

Soon the website will be updated. PHEWW!

between the to dos and pickups

i'm so glad to be back in the studio today.

Makes me so happy.

But it's never long enough.

I always find there is a a certain  time of the day where I'm stuck. I've answered emails, I've packed any orders, and taken care of other business basics. It usually starts around 1.20pm.

I'm ready and keen to create.

But the reality of creating before hopping in the car and picking up the kids from school sets in.

It just ain't going to happen.

So this is where I leave my desk today.

lamingtons and crocodiles

Today is Australia Day.

A day where most people don't work (uhumm, except for my husband).

A day where people catch up with friends or family for some grub and a yarn or a chin wag  in the typical Australian casual way.

There's usually beer to drink from the bottlo, {most commonly from another country such as Mexico or Italy.} Or there's always plonk.  There's often swimming, even with crocodiles, and for those who have been brainwashed by the very clever marketing gurus, there is usually lamb to be eaten.

I also snuck in some early morning baking and made this Aussie icon, from this recipe

And if you are 6, then you are allowed to dress in as many layers as you possibly can put on over your togs, cozzies and boardies. So long as you wear a hat

Simple, happy life. Happy International Australia Day.

 

ABCme personalised art

There comes a time where I just have to be strong and make desicions about my direction as an artist. I've dabbled in many fields: graphic desinger; web designer; illustrator; printmaker; painter; product designer and now in my late 30's I think I know what I want to be when I grow up. Although I don't think I could ever be just one thing, I do know that there are some things that I do, that just don't fit into my mould right now.

Hence, I have decided to no longer make the ABCme range of personalised art for children.

For those of you who have ordered ABCme's in the past and were hoping to order more for new babies and loved ones, then please feel free to email me directly and I will be happy to make one for you. There have been no changes to the ABCME tab on my website as yet, but I will be refreshing the site at some stage this year and all imagery and details will only be made via direct email.

I'm a little sad to make this decision as I have created over 900 ABCmes both on paper and canvas since starting them in 2004. Thank you to all that have been so supportive...

the flood

this is probably the most difficult post I've ever written.

My city is a mess. My state of Queensland is a mess.

And I really cannot put into words just how awful this is and how terrible it will be for who knows how long.

I can't put into words the sadness and shock that I feel. My house has not been affected and thank you for all the lovely emails I've had from people all over the world. We are fine. My husband's business was flooded to the floors and he is now without power for a month due to the electrical damage. Thankfully he now has a generator. Because if he can't work, all those that work for him are out of work.

It's the ripple effect that is really starting to hit home for everyone. The big things, destroy the smaller things which are equally as big to many people.

But that's nothing to people losing their homes to flood damage. To see my friend on the news tonight outside he house... trying to throw out and clean up...the reality of it....

And nothing compare to people losing family members, ontop of everything they own.

There are still over 50 people missing just 40 minutes from where we live.

I feel numb.

Res o lute

Admirably purposeful, determined, and unwavering.

I havent't heard too many people talk about New Year Resolutions so far? Are we just too lazy or scared to try something because the chances are we are going to fail? We've all tried the usual suspects

Lose more weight. Drink less wine. Give up smoking, stop using crystal meth.

They all sound quite boring and negative, and really hard to do. {Not saying I have a crystal meth. problem.} 

I personally haven't made a resolution for the new year in years for these reasons. But today as I reached in my cupboard for a bowl, the shelves were all wet. My ceiling is leaking from all the rain that we've had. So it was stop work and start mopping. As I reached the bottom of the pantry I came to three boxes of recipe books and magazines. In all I have 62 magazines. About 12 months ago I culled the same amount and left these 62 thinking that I would be good and find some delicious recipes in each one.

Not one magazine was opened in that time. They are simply taking up space in my kitchen.

So my resolution is one that will have positive outcomes and will not be a, uhum, recipe for failure.

I will leave my pile of mags on my kitchen bench in the way of everything until one by one, I rip out 2-3 recipes from each magazine. NOt just any recipes. There'll be no fancy cakes or meals that require an ingredient I need to purchase from the back streets of Timor. My choices will be based on easy dinners so that I don't get half way through February with that feeling of "what shall I cook for dinner". I will then try to be determined and unwavering to continue my enthusiam for meals for my family for the entire year.

Love to hear your resolution, so long as it doesn't have the words, gym, wine, weight, or exercise in it.

And my mantra for the year...if you haven't used it in 12 months chuck it out, is seriously working.

The green leaves? That's just because everything is so green here at the moment.

it's still raining.

Constant rain.

Mouldy house that has been closed for a week.

Muddy garage.

Laundry hanging all over the house, trying to dry.

luscious, vibrant green grass.

Grey clouds leaking.

Silence in the house.

One little friend who is glad to be at my side again.

Early morning starts in peace...just for a few days.

It's good to be back in my studio, at my desk.

Listening to the rain on my roof.

Dripping from the palm trees.

Let the show begin.

rain rain go away come again another day.

So much rain where we live, but so happy that we are all OK.

Travelling the country side with gumboots and beach towels. Being prepared.

You'll never know what you'll see whilst playing Sleeping Queens and sipping champagne.
