deep dreaming

it's nice to finish.

I've had a little bit of that this week. Finishing paintings like this big piece, "Drifting in the Depths".

I'm not really sure if I'll sell it or not. It needs to sit with me for awhile.

But I have made a limited edition print from the image.

I've also been cleaning many things. Spring cleaning is in full swing..., exposed beams, cupboards, and even my blog. Did you notice the changes?

I feel Christmas holidays approaching and feeling many changes on the way. Good changes.

natives

I'm currently obsessed with native flora from the Southern Hemisphere. I'm on the search for a good book or two. Leucospermums, Proteas, Kangaroo Paw, Gum Nut flowers......

Please someone tell my husband to put natives on my coffin when I die....he'll forget.

so it was a little delayed...

Back in April someone in this house turned 7. This year is the year of the party {I don't do them every year}, but due to moving and a mountain of other things that seemed to keep me busy, I kept on putting the party off.

The fact is I dislike organising kids' parties.....maybe because I don't really feel like I'm there when everyone else is having fun....it's just work, no matter how simple you make it. And I hate making cake.

However, due to someone else turning 9 this week, I really needed to lock in her party day. There would have been tears to fill a river if she didn't get that much promised disco party.

So we did it. It was a success in a very chaotic and crazy way. I even made a cake. didn't get a photo of the inside...too busy... but it was three layers, green, white and pink. Inspired by this. It really was super easy to do.

Glad she enjoyed herself. Now she can get back to being Leaf Girl and save the the trees and animals and I can mentally prepare myself for a bunch of boys who will invade my garden in a few weeks for the next party.

On a completely different note, I've been trying to get my website updated. It's one of those things that never seems the right time to do compared to all the other time consuming tasks requiring attention. The truth is, I was showing someone the other day some of my work, and had no one place where it was all located. So I've created a tumblr site which will be an interim site until the other one is completed. old people's flowers.

Hippeastrums that is.

Well at least I think so. I often see them in gardens that look like they are tended by old people.

Until I moved here.  The lady, {who was uhum, a few years older than me} who lived here and created the garden really did an amazing job. Her choice and positioning of plants has been exceptional and I am now a fan of the big, in your face, show-stopping, Hippeastrum.

And after what seems like months I have finally taken hold of my SLR and ditched my iphone for some up close and personal snaps. I'm always amazed how I can take so many photos of just one thing. But  I love the structure, the shapes, and the colours that are discovered through the lens.
