before I get sick of it

I've been working on this piece for awhile and I'm at the stage where I need to finish it. If I don't it will not get finished. The bad thing about this is that it is big and I can't exactly store it out of the way with my other wips. My aim is for it to be a new artwork for our bedroom. So I shall cease writing and continue my progress. May the force be with me.

green square swap

Do you ever post and then lose all the information after typing it in! AGGGHHH. So now this is the shortened version of what I had typed as the arsenic hour has arrived and I have two hungry kids begging for dinner!

Carmen from sweet petite and I swaped some green/square goodies. I received them about a month a go but was waiting until the month of green to show you. Here are some photos. Thanks Carmen, I love all of them. I'm very nervous about giving the kids the beautiful placemats you made, but I promise not to show you any of the food stains. The goodies that I sent can be seen at my flickr page.

Edit: what's with the Boggle Junior you say? No, no game inside, just a nifty way to send her goodies.

farewell orange

My month of exploring orange is finished. Looking back I feel like I haven't really achieved a lot that is  directly related to this colour.  I don't have a passion for red, and I still don't think highly of yellow, but the combination of the two has really sparked my emotions and I think I will be using it more in future with confidence. However, somewhere along the track this colour somehow brought me to dive into the world of nesting dolls..call them Matryoshka or Babushka...(what is the difference?)and this I am thankful for.

Also my interest for pattern design has resurged. There might be a little more of this happening too. I seem to start and stop on designing patterns, but like most of what I do,  I just get to a point where I don't know what to do with it. I could investigate and research avenues to get my work out there, but realistically my allocated marketing hours averages 46 minutes a month  and I spread this out between bum wiping and scraping cornflakes off the floor! So for now I need to be satisfied with where I am at and be thankful for  the hours I have to create ideas that one day might evolve into something more tangible.

The Orange Facts

I’ve been lagging a bit behind of late but now I am finally posting some information about the colour ORANGE. To my surprise I am really enjoying this colour. It works so well with so many other colours, greens, purples, greys, pinks and reds and natural blends such as tans and not to forget blues. I love the way it can be so bright and clear and yet when darkened it can turn to brown. To me it is an essential colour of autumn and of course there are plenty of foods that are orange/brown in colour that we eat in autumn. Such as pumpkins and spices. So here are a few facts for all you lovers of colour.

Mood
Orange is a warm, friendly colour. People who favour orange are thought to be easy-going and pleasant-tempered…is that you? People often feel more sociable in orange rooms, they tend to open up and become more jovial.

Nature
What else is there that is so dominating? The sun of course. Pale oranges and peaches are the colors of dawn, while sunsets often contain bright oranges and pinks. But this hasn’t always been the case. 100 years ago it is believed that sunsets weren’t as orange as they are today. This has to do with pollution and all those tiny dust particles in the air that overpower the blue and violet wavelengths of light.

Names
Oranges can be salmon, tangerine and peach. And I can’t forget the hideous fluorescent orange…perhaps the only negative association with the colour.

Culture
If I think of one country associated with this colour it is The Netherlands. This colour stems from their monarchy. Of course there is also the question of why do Buddhist Monks where orange robes? You’ll find the answer here. So tell me what is your favourite orange thing? Is it a recipe, a memory, artwork, a photo or something you have in your house?

orange fizz

I know I know this month was going to be all about green but this lovely lady sent me the most amazing parcel of orange goodies for some inspiration. So green will have to wait some more. I'm keeping my posts brief due to the frustrations of my overheating computer....i've mentioned this right? This is the second attempt at posting. Fingers crossed please that I will be set up with new technology within the next 2 weeks...and new ink cartridges. For all those waiting on emails..they will come I promise.
So no orange facts or info just yet, this will come. I have been spending some time using my paintbrush and sewing machine to create this flower study. It is a start.

My quilt is currently in the hands of Australia Post and on its way to here. Now that I do not have a quilt to snuggle under in the cool of the evening, I think I might have to finish some other projects..Don't laugh I'm serious.

thank you

I just completed a swap with Laura from Jellyspecs. Sadly she no longer has a blog site, but does have a flickr account with some great things to see. I received..we received..the most amazing package of goodies. She made the most devine apron for me. I'm too scared to wear it when cooking for fear of it getting dirty. In addition to what is below she sent many other wonderful presents including some Jill Bliss stationery. I love it all and thank you.
My non blogging friends are amazed that someone I have never met has taken the time to make and buy items and send them to the other side of the world. I am too. So I'll show you what I sent later when the parcels have been received. (Yes silly me forgot to put one thing in and had to send it separately so there are 2 parcels)
In other news I managed to create some new artwork for the shop. I'm feeling a little over BIRDened! I love drawing and painting birds, but I have an itch to explore something new. So stay tuned, you might be seeing something new soon.

colour diversion

I'm exploring this wonderful book Contemporary Whitework. I spied it at my local library and it is full of the most amazing embroidery that showcases a variety of stitch techniques and contemporary styles. The bottom left image is something I am working on but I cannot reveal anymore until finished.

tweety birds

I seemed to get over my yellow woes this weekend and had a chance to make some new cards. There are 6 in a pack and are in the shop now. More can be seen on flickr or at the shop. I have sewn the images onto the card. And I actually am surprised that I like these yellow birds, I could have kept on drawing all day!

Tweetycards

And thank you to Stephanie for this lovely swap. I swapped one of my earlier yellow pieces I created in the year for some of her work. It was a lovely surprise, plus all the other goodies she popped in.
