Rock On

this is a purely self indulgent post about the pleasure that a singing and dancing 3 year old can give a mum whilst I cook dinner. Rock on Miss M! And don't be a sad little poppet when the music stops, because I can listen to Sheryl Crow's, Real Gone and The Wiggle's, Old Man Emu over and over and over and OVVVEERRER again if that's what makes you happy.

90 and not out

90 and not out is a term used in the game of cricket. This weekend we finished a week's worth of celebrations with a surprise 90th birthday for my grandfather. I've drunk too much champagne and eaten too many party plates of food this week. Now with the festive season around the corner, I am going to try and be good.
Here is a moment captured. And he sits proudly with his medal pinned to his chest. A Knight of France.

what's that mummy?

That would be a snake in my pool area. Now contrary to popular urban myth, snakes don't live in every Australian backyard. But they do like to visit some once in awhile. We live in the city, but on the edge of bush area so it isn't a great surprise to see this 3.5m (11 feet?) snake sliding its way through my garden. The kids were mesmorised, once they got beyond their fear. In order for me to be able to let Kransky the super dog into the bakyard again, I had  to call someone to take her away. I'm hoping I won't see too many more of these as the weather heats up. Edition: And just to add some info about this lovely lady. She is a carpet snake (python). Non venomous. I wouldn't be that happy to have a death adder or brown snake in my back yard.....but my sister in law who lives on a property does!!!

rain rain don't go away

Finally it is raining! YIPEE. Both Mr A and Miss M have never seen so much rain in such a short amount of time, well maybe Mr A as a baby. Everyday we venture out and they look for puddles to jump in. One of those simple things in life that brings pleasure is watching a child get such joy out of jumping in water. So we will be spending the weekend at home. Kransky is hoping he'll get a walk at some stage. I'm working on so many things, cards, gifts and quilts and sorting out my fabric stash. Enjoy your weekend.

eight times

It is now the eighth month of the year. And yesterday Zoe, tagged me. She is now the eighth person to have tagged me since June. I declined all other tags because I made a promise at the beginning of the year that I wouldn't do anymore this year. But it seems that you really want to know more about me, so I'm breaking my promise and posting  8 things about me. I think just about everyone has been tagged, so I won't be asking anyone.
But what do I tell you? I'm not very good at these things. So I have decided to show you 8 things that I have done today. Friday is usually a day spent at home with the kids. Warning, you may easily be bored.

1. I spent 15 minutes setting up and cleaning up paint so the kids could spend 5 minutes painting.

2. I wore odd socks and slippers until 10.30 when it just got too hot for them. I'm still washing the piles of clothes in the laundry.

3. I looked at the pool and wondered how cold it is, but didn't test it out.

4. I helped make a super dooper racing car with my son.

5. I looked at the blue sky and wondered if I will ever see rain clouds again.

6. I picked some lavender for my kitchen window.

7. I made some tea for me and apple tea for the kids.

8. I'm thinking I would like to sit and do some stitching for this pillow for Mi ss M's room. Maybe tomorrow.

out with the old and in with the new

this image on the left has been lopsided in the frame for quite some time. I'm also sick of looking at it. I created the 'mosaic' with various papers as a colour study some years ago. The frame sits over the control panel of the air conditioner. The numskull who put the control panel on the wall thought ...or didn't think....that it would be good to have it right in the middle. Or perhaps this person actually was thinking ahead and purposely decided to put it there so a painting could be placed over it. Anyway, I decided to make a change. When I'm not in russian doll mode or bird mode I seem to be loving leaves and pods. I wonder how long I will like this one for??

chilling it a bit

we live in one of the warmer parts of the world. Wet, sticky hot summers and mild winters. When it drops below 16 degrees celcius here, the locals start to complain about how cold it is. And so far this season we have had a few of those days...I'm loving it. As much as we STILL need rain, we are very lucky that the days are full of sunshine and crisp, blue skies.
So yesterday we ventured to a new park but I under-estimated the icy winds so we didn't really rug up enough. I thought I would take some paper and pens to draw with so while the kids played I would sit in the sun and sketch. Except Mr A is like me and could easily draw and paint all day long. As you can see here, it was nicer sitting with mum on the rug and using her sketch book and her pens instead of whizzing  down a slide. Could have stayed home really. But at least we found a new park to play at.

another one just like it please

Firstly, I just wanted so show a part of some presents I sent to this lady after her kind generosity earlier in the year. It is a paper weight just in case you were wondering. Secondly, we had a wonderful weekend. I explored my parents' garden. Lots of natives and amazingly tall trees. I took some time out on Saturday morning at the Eumundi markets....by myself. I hate shopping with other people, so it was heavenly roaming around and checking out all the stalls. I bought some goodies which I will show some other time. But best of all was the part where I sat on the 'green' grass and ate Balinese chicken kebabs followed by an entire plate of poffertjes drizzled with maple syrup. Infact I ate all weekend and feel rather overdone now. And no I haven't learnt how to knit over the weekend. This wonderful cardigan was made by my mum for Miss M...she doesn't think she is very good!

new dress

If you are reading this for the second time you may have seen that I have deleted some previous comments to help reduce the amount of scum visitng my site. A Google search in my stats showed up and  I wasn't very happy with it, so I deleted the comments with key words in them to hopefully not allow this to happen again.

I did it! I made my first dress. It has yet to survive a machine wash, and there is much puckering to be seen...but I've done it. (Do you hear the trumpets tooting loudly?) I may even do another one...maybe in a woolen blend?? Now all I have to do is get her out of it before dinner time. The front right patch was the extra addition after my snipping incident.

i need help

I remember as a child I would draw under my sheets at night. I loved to draw from a young age. I would try to hold the torch so I could see the paper but it was very difficult to do. One morning my mother discovered bright ink stains all over the sheets and when confronted and asked if I had been drawing in bed I said no. I mean how could she have known, it was a secret. Then she showed me the evidence. I was ashamed and also heart broken that I would never be allowed to do any midnight drawing under the sheets again.

Almost 30 years on and I have discovered that Miss M has the same passion as I did. She woke last night upset and needing to go to the loo. In the dimly lit room, all I could see were reddish splotches on her arms. I panicked. Then panic turned into anger...but really how can you be too angry at 1.30am. I kept my anger until this morning for my husband. Yes, it was he who left that red permanent marker in her room! The damage isn't  too bad. I expected to see it all over her room, but as bad luck would have it, there is only one small area on her hand made quilt...I mean it could have been the sheets or pillow slip.

Mostly I'm disappointed and sad because I don't know how to get rid of the stain from the quilt that I made Miss M. So far I have dabbed it with white-spirits (dry cleaning fluid) and washed it. Nothing. Next I will try to rot some milk to see if that lifts the stain. Otherwise I will just put it down to a memory. A moment in time. A story that I will be able to tell my grandchildren if the quilt lasts that long.

Any suggestions?
