meet frankie

one little project that I've been wanting to finish for ages is this little bird. Meet Frankie. He lives outside so I made him a scarf for the fresh winter nights. I've admired some other bird softies for quite sometime, so couldn't resist giving it a go too!

odd shaped bits

Miss M has been sick with fever and conjunctivitis this week on top of her cold last week. What is it with not getting into a doctor when you need to. Yesterday afternoon i noticed her eyes weeping and do you think my doctor would see her for 10 minutes to simply examine and write a script? I managed to go to another local GP, but that meant filling out more paperwork which took up more time at the end of a miserable day.
It also meant no swimming lessons for her today. We sat on the side and watched Mr A instead. My day from there on progressed into an awful state of affairs topped by an entire shopping strip staring at my son screaming his lungs out and calling me names whilst dragging him back to the car. Lets just say, don't promise your  kids you'd buy them a special lunch, show them the menu, the delicious fresh juice and a table to sit while you order and then discover you have left your purse at home on the kitchen bench. His poor behaviour is a good sign that he is getting sick too.

Somehow I did find a moment this afternoon to finish this little fellow, Mr Jitterbug. He developed from this and will soon be on his hip hopping way to here for the Mirabel project. He has a few pointy and odd shaped bits, but don't we all?

can you feel a change in the air?

It is like the world has shifted all of a sudden. Do you feel a change? The air and light is different and a new season is approaching. For me it is Spring. Already the days are hotter, the position of the sun has changed and new garden life is shooting through. My parents came down yesterday and have offered to take the kids for the week. Bliss. It is so peaceful here. Kind of strange too, but I am enjoying it. The clivia flower in the photo was given to me by my mum. I planted this in a house we had in a different town many years ago. Before moving , I gave my mother and mother in law clivia's and freesias galore. And now they are coming back to me.

So for the next few days I will be enjoying my space on the verandah by myself, making lots of new things, browsing furniture shops for a corner table, and getting through a very long list.

generosity

there are so many people in 'blogland' (that sounds a bit like noddy world) I would like to meet. Some out of simple curiosity. Others out of that certain feeling you get about someone. A likeness. Some I would like to have a good laugh with over a drink whilst others to talk about their passions and get more of an insight into their mind.

Since beginning this blog there is one person I have always been drawn to. Its like I can hear her voice through my computer screen when I read her comments or her posts.(don't worry I'm not obsessed)

Every time I visit her world I feel a need to return to mine at a much slower pace. To simplify myself. Have less and appreciate more of what is around me and at hand.

I bought this top the other day from her shop and I even when opening the parcel, I felt as if there was a whole lot more to just linen and thread. Well there were a few extra goodies, but just this top alone made my day. I'm hanging in my wardrobe with my best! thank you Paula.

And then, there are those people who appreciate what I have made. Reading this post gave me goosebumps and a boost of overdrive to keep on making. Especially when they create such goodness themselves. thank you Jennifer.

baba ganoush anyone?

well my eyes are on the mend now. Still a little dry and itchy, but I'm all good to go. I've been sewing instead of sitting at my computer which has been lovely. I sat down and made some more soft matryoshka dolls. I have yet to make some with bases, but for now I have gone with this design. I have decided to add these to my shop some time soon with some others that are still on the table ready to be sewn together. I've combined a number of techniques such as hand embroidery, free motion machine stitching and drawing directly onto the linen.
